4 Features of Using Facebook for Ministry
ByAs a minister one extremely easy tool I have found to reach the congregation is facebook, the popular social networking website.
Because of the overwhelming popularity of this site among students and adults, here are four features I’ve found for using this site to effectively communicate with those individuals.
- MESSAGES – This is a nice feature that allows you to communicate with the people that come through your ministry. It is quick and easy. All you have to remember is a face or name rather than a ridiculous email address (ilikebrowndogsinthefall@relevantcollegeministry.com)
- GROUPS - This feature allows you to create your specific group (ministry name) on their website. When people “join” the group, facebook links them to the others in the group. This provides an opportunity for connection with fellow believers. It also provides a bit of advertising to the group. When someone joins a group on facebook, the site notifies every one of your “friends” that you have joined that group. Therefore, it helps promote your ministry.
- EVENTS – Another cool and useful tool on facebook! This feature allows you to create an “event” and promote it on their site. This can be used to announce a concert, to promote a Bible study, or whatever your ministry is doing. Not only can you post events but you can also send out virtual invitations to everyone of your “friends.” (They can invite their friends and their friends’ friends) This saves a ton on postage and effort on getting the word out. A definite plus for busy schedules!
- NOTES – This feature allows you to share your thoughts with your “friends.” It is a cool way to communicate what the Lord is doing in your life, the life of others, or in your ministry. Note posting is also a cool way to publish a little “devotional” for individuals to read. When you post it, every one of your “friends” are notified.
An added and extremely important feature is…
IT IS FREE! A free tool for you to use to reach an enormous amount of people…It cannot get any better than that!
Enjoy using this tool, and let me know of other innovative ways you use facebook.
